The Tri-Committee of Ontario is creating a graphic data standard for use by Municipalities within Ontario: CAD.

CAD is a comprehensive digital resource for the submission and review of construction plans and drawings for Infrastructure Management Systems.

The CAD Standards will:
  • Reduce duplication of effort.
  • Enhance communication through graphic file exchange.
  • Enable bulk loading of the Engineering Database system.
  • Easy conformance with the standard.
  • Provide standard graphics for the display of road, sewer and water systems.

The CAD Standard consists of:
  • point (cell or block library)
  • Line types
  • Layering standard
  • Feature Coding
  • Tag field standard
  • Graphic and Non-Graphic Data
  • Scaling and Viewing Standards

Major CAD Standard Components:
  • Property Specifications
  • Street annotation Specifications
  • Storm Water Specifications
  • Sanitary Sewer Specifications
  • Water Distribution Specifications

Existing Standards have been received from the following participants:

  • Metro Toronto LIS
  • City of London
  • Ministry of Transportation of Ontario
  • Town of Markham
  • Bell Canada
  • City of Mississauga
  • City of Ottawa
  • City of Oshawa
  • Regional Municipality of Sudbury
  • City of Barrie
